In a remarkable collaboration, Adhlal and FAIIIDA organized a workshop that introduces Saudi Arabia’s design sector to the latest technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR). The focus was on introducing and integrating Web3 and decentralized identities (DID), topics that might not initially seem directly related to design. Yet, during my workshop, I had the opportunity to clarify these modern technologies and demonstrate their
relevance for design professionals.
By: Tanja Ludwig – Founder @w3-ff Venture Builder. “Web3 and the startup world inspired me. I have been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years. Realizing new ideas fascinates me.“
Workshop DynamicsAI and VR in Design The first two workshop sessions focused on AI
Rakan Alsheri @Adhlal and VR Abdulaziz A. Alobaid @FAIIIDA. These technologies are
already known in the design world for opening up new possibilities for creativity and
efficiency. AI tools can help automate and optimize design processes, while VR enables the
creation of immersive and interactive environments, especially useful in areas such as
interior design and product visualization.
Web3 and Decentralized Identities: New Opportunities for Designers The third part of
our workshop focused on Web3 and decentralized identities (DID), topics that at first glance
might seem less tangible for the design industry. Here are some key points:
● Basic Principles of Web3
○ Decentralization: Power shifts from centralized institutions to users, giving
them more control and ownership over their data.
○ Transparency and Trust: Through blockchain technology, all transactions
are transparent and immutable, creating a higher level of trust.
○ Ownership and Control: Users can actually own digital assets like designs
through cryptocurrencies and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), secured and
verified by blockchain.
● Application in the Design Industry
○ Protection of Designs: Designers can register their works as NFTs, securing
authenticity and copyright. These digital assets are difficult to forge and easy
to verify.
○ Documentation of Awards: Awards and achievements can also be stored as
NFTs, providing transparent and tamper-proof proof of accomplishments.
The technologies not only strengthen individual designers by increasing the security and
visibility of their works but also enhance the credibility and trust within the entire design
industry.
Cultural Insights and Creative Interaction The workshop was not only a platform for
technical exchange but also a creative and interactive event. The warm and open welcome I
received and the impression of a highly motivated nation working purposefully towards a
vision were particularly impressive. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on innovation
and digitalization as well as the promotion of local talents, is clearly reflected in such
initiatives. These goals are just part of a comprehensive vision aimed at preparing the
country for the future in various areas.
The workshop highlighted how cultural openness and the drive for innovation underline
Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a progressive and inclusive future. This approach provides a
strong foundation for future developments and strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position as an
innovation hub in the Middle East.
Future Plans and Visions The experiences and insights from the workshop have inspired
me to consider a joint venture-builder project in the field of design professionals. Such a
project could not only strengthen the local design industry but also take a leading role in the
global creative economy.
Conclusion The “Web3 Meets Design Industry in Saudi Arabia” workshop was an
enlightening event that shows how advanced technologies can change the design world.
The combination of technological education and creative exchange provides a strong
foundation for future developments and strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position as an innovation
hub in the Middle East. The Vision 2030 is more than just a plan; it marks the beginning of a
new era where technology and creativity go hand in hand.
And for anyone who has worked with Web3 tools themselves, they can surely appreciate
that Web3 projects should engage more with designers. User-friendliness, simplicity, and
design demands are still lacking in most tools.
